The Government of Tamil Nadu, on September 18, 2026, declared Tuesday, October 6, 2026, as a public holiday on account of the poll for the bye-election to the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly from 35-Madurantakam (SC) and 101-Dharapuram (SC) Assembly Constituencies, under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881.
All Government offices, Government industrial establishments, Government-controlled bodies and educational institutions situated within the areas of the two constituencies in Chengalpattu and Tiruppur districts, respectively, will remain closed on October 6, 2026. The declaration has been made under the Explanation to Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881.
Employees working in Chengalpattu, Tiruppur and neighbouring districts who are registered voters in either of the two constituencies will also be entitled to a paid holiday on October 6, 2026, irrespective of their workplace location.
